Question
Hi
I will be visiting the US for 6 months on a J-1 visa with my partner and son from Jan 07, and am completely unsure what type of halth insurance we need. The quotes seem to vary so much. So, my question is: what type of insurance do we need and how much can we expect to pay?
Thanks to anyone who can help.
Craig
Answer
You need to purchase Visit USA-Healthcare, available for instant purchase at
It meets all the requirements of J1 visa. Most othe plans don't meet J1 visa requirements.
Answer
Hi
Thanks very much for this.
When I follow the various links on *******, it suggests there are other companies that offer suitable coverage for someon on a J-1 visa, e.g. Atlas-America. Is this right?
Also, while this kind of coverage meets the requirements for a J-1 visa, is it possible to give me any idea of the things that this kind of insurance would not cover that a more comprehensive package would?
Thanks,
Craig
Answer
That web site is misleading.
We sell Atlas America as well. In fact, we sell all major plans available in the market for international health insurance.
Both Visit USA and Atlas America are comprehensive plans.
However, Atlas America does NOT meet the requirements of J-1 visa.
Please read J-1 visa requirements at http://www.buyamericaninsurance.com/...ateid=here
It clearly states that insurance must cover $50,000 for every sickness/injury.
If you buy $50,000 Atlas America, it will cover $50,000 only once no matter how many times you get sick or injured. It does NOT provide $50,000 per sickness/injury coverage.
We have listed the plans that meet J-1 visa requirements at http://www.buyamericaninsurance.com/...ateid=here
