URGENT!: Taking insurance in India vs in US ?

Question
Hello here!
My in-laws are coming next week and I've a question about their insurance. A friend of mine whose in-laws came to US 2 weeks ago said that he has taken their medical insurance from ICICI bank in India which costed him Rs 12,000/- for coverage of Rs 10 Lakhs. He told me that ICICI had plans like Gold, Silver, etc. depending on coverage. However, I'm not sure if this is suggested as most have said taking insurance from US based company is better! Is this accepted by most doctors in US ?
Appreciate if the experts cud give suggestions.....
Thanks,

Answer
Of course, buying insurance from US company is better.
Before buying any visitor insurance, please read
And then compare those points with the plan you are planning to purchase. Make sure you ask all those questions.
Make sure that instead of believing travel agents or just the brochure(which typically have limited information in Indian plans), you ask for the policy wording itself and read it thoroughly to understand it.
Particularly,
* ICICI Lombard is fixed coverage plan for ages above 55, it is NOT comprehensive.
read http://www.buyamericaninsurance.com/...?section=fixed and http://www.buyamericaninsurance.com/...=comprehensive
* You or doctor/hospital have to call phone number in New Delhi and deal with them there. Ask doctors/hospitals in your area whether they would be willing to deal with them by calling phone number in New Delhi.
